Catharine Somerville’s latest exhibition will open at the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre on April 27th and run until May 28th. Meet Catharine in person on Sunday, May 1st, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. for the opening of this must-see show.
The paintings featured in the exhibit reflect all the colours in the natural world and how they are illuminated in different seasons. In Cathy’s own words:
“With each painting I enter the beauty and spirit of the natural world. The poetry of ever-shifting landscape joins with my imaginings and opens a path for me to explore my painting.
I mostly start with my notes and sketches or paint ‘En Plein Air’ on location. I then return to my studio to develop the work. I hope to capture the emotions of sublime awe and energy of what it feels like to be fully present in the moment hallowed in the beauty of the natural world.
My work fluctuates. Shifts and changes may be thought by some to be drastic, even capricious. However, the exploration and passion searching for truth in art remain constant.”
