Moving through different latitudes has been something I’ve done throughout my life. In 1972 I spent hitchhiking with my boyfriend and dog across Newfoundland on dirt roads and fishing boats. Between 1978-1990 my husband I sailed on a 43 ft yacht across three oceans from the UK to the Mediterranean to the USA and on to the Caribbean. Travels to the Arctic 2001, took me on a voyage through the Northwest Passage. 2002-2007 I travelled Mexico and central America and spent 6 weeks in the Las Pozas jungle garden of Edward James. 2010 was spent flying to remote First Nations communities in Northwestern Ontario. Over the years and since I was 17 years old I have travelled by train to visit family on the Morton Ranch, Alberta and more cousins in Victoria, British Columbia. As I live now in both the UK and Canada I am constantly experiencing a European culture versus a Canadian culture. All have pushed my sensibilities into the wonderment of nature and have contributed to a kaleidoscope of approaches to my work.
